And... a quiet Saturday
Jan. 24th, 2026 11:45 pmI spent more time with Momo, who was even cuddlier today than yesterday… I bought a few groceries, listened to two of the Delgani pre-concert talks, did some work, and read a lot. It’s still too cold to go for a walk, realistically. I also watched the second half of an odd movie of King Solomon’s Mines (not the 1950 version), and a fair amount of the Andrew Davies’ version of Northanger Abbey. I’ll be watching more of that in a bit.
Meanwhile, J and D’s days got off to a rough start with a smoke alarm going off in their room for more than an hour around 6 a.m. How frustrating! J’s appearance in the Magic Regional Championship got him a 5-4 record, only because his round 9 opponent failed to appear (which I think also happened for an earlier round). CG was also 5-4, and DG dropped after he got to 4-4. Meanwhile, D had a 4-0 start! He made it to 6-1, but then it took quite a while before I heard the outcome, 6-3. However, that qualifies him to continue in the tournament tomorrow; top 32 will qualify for the Magic Pro Tour, and he’s presumably already top 128, which qualifies him for the next Regional Championship.
Tomorrow they’ll be home, and then I’ll get to see J a lot more often, for weeks, if not months.
In the evening, I saw photos from what must have been an impromptu protest of the latest Trump-sanctioned murder in Minneapolis, outside the bookstore where I usually shop. I’d have been tempted to attend, had I known about it.
