This weekend was my high school reunion - for my graduating class, not the class I'd spent the previous three years with. I have some friends in that year, but the only one I was interested in seeing was W, whom I'd told I'd be there, at least for today's pizza event. (I have no interest in the dinner + dancing part last night.) It had been fun to see him at the pizza event five years ago, and it's a fun location, beside the river, so I said sure, we'll come, as long as the smoke isn't bad.

But then J. got sick, and I was coughing and sneezing and sleeping a lot extra without being fully sick, and it seemed like a bad idea. J. was definitely too uncomfortable to go, and I'd hardly want to spread a contagious disease anyway. I thought, well, if I wake up feeling great today, I could go on my own... but since it was just to see W, I emailed him yesterday and suggested we get together another time.

So I did wake up feeling much better today - but the smoke was back. It's not terrible smoke, but it's not great - "unhealthy" rather than the "hazardous" it was on Tuesday. The map shows that it extends more than 300 miles out into the ocean! So I didn't bother with the reunion, though I did make a trip to the library in case the smoke gets worse or I finally come down with whatever J. has.

On my way home, I saw two people sitting outside the Highlands bar, where their customers have to go when they want a cigarette. Imagine, sitting outside when the air is like that! Or maybe if you're okay with putting tobacco into your lungs, a bit of burnt forest is no big deal?
