Let the Winter Break begin!
Dec. 21st, 2012 11:43 pmIt was a bit nerve-wracking, dropping D. off at school today, because on Monday we’d gotten an e-mail from the principal telling us about rumors of school violence (throughout the district, not at our school specifically) expected for Friday, said to be related to the Mayan Apocalypse. Nevertheless, things had quieted down, and today was supposed to be a “fun day,” and D. was performing in two bands in the afternoon assembly, and the principal had reminded us on Tuesday that the school now has only one entrance during the day (rather than the six it used to have), so, off he went. And things were fine, except that the “fun day” didn’t live up to billing. His science teacher even “quizzed” them on identifying spices by smell, and D. apparently only knows vanilla and cinnamon, so that wasn’t ideal.
Anyway, in the evening he tried drafting with J. but nobody else signed up, so we ended up going out to the neighborhood Mexican restaurant for dinner (“to celebrate the Mayan Apocalypse,” although I’m pretty sure the Yucatan is a long way away from Jalisco, where the owners are from). Then we watched two Fairy Tail episodes, and I went on a fairly long walk, and we then played a bunch of Diablo II, completing Act III. Maybe tomorrow we’ll do oodles of wrapping and get our outdoor lighting into better shape.
