Unfortunate endings
May. 30th, 2026 06:44 pmJust now, I was at the Market of Choice, and I discovered that the local bakery of my favorite, all natural, bread is closing its doors. I wonder what I will do? When they’ve had gaps in service in the last few years, I didn’t find any substitutes I liked well enough. I could make my own bread, but that takes time and gives up the convenience of the slicing. We’ll see.
Also, the company that makes one of J’s favorite flavors of hummus (“black olive”) appears to have discontinued that flavor.
Back on Monday, when we showed the Brussels hotel neighborhoods to DG, AA, D, and S, making our case for the very charming neighborhood that looks a bit farther from the Magic tournament venue, compared with the not-at-all charming neighborhood that looks to be right next door but probably is not? All of those options are gone; no vacancies. It’s probably just as well, as the downtown Brussels hotels that still have rooms would be more convenient for many other things they might want to do while there.
And then the “ending” that happened chronologically first of these – when I got home from J’s house last night I found a pile of blue feathers on my entryway mat. Apparently the outdoor cats got tired of the constant harassment from one of the prospective-parent jays. We’ll see if the remaining jay can manage single parenthood or what.

I could see that they might have had quite enough. Or maybe the bird just got careless.
