The “Summer of Zelda” resumes
Jul. 30th, 2012 10:36 pmFor his birthday, I had given D. the Wind Waker Zelda game, and the requisite memory card and wireless controller for GameCube/Wii, so today he dove back into that magical world. It’s very nice as background for working, too, though it meant taking a day off from the Olympics.
As usual, he fell in love with the theme music. Before his bedtime, he played a long version of it on YouTube for me. I’d also found some previously ignored recorder sheet music for “Scarborough Fair” in his backpack, left over from that summer camp, so I had him listen to Simon and Garfunkel’s version. (YouTube had all the lyrics! I’ve always wondered about them!) Then he was inspired to play it a few times on the keyboard. Clearly in my plan to introduce him to the classic melodies of the 1960s, I need to include S&G as well as the Beatles.
