Still focusing on mom-stuff and being low-key and unwinding. Today I watched the second half of a Hallmark movie, Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith. These things are so trite. In this one, a divorcée (Cybill Shepherd) decides to finish college and goes to live in a dorm for a year. Of course our heroine helped her 20-year-old roommate reconcile with her mother and avoid making her own dropping-out mistake, and of course they nearly effortlessly got past their discovery that they were both secretly in love with the same professor, and naturally she had a son just the right age for the roommate, but did our nearly-60-year-old heroine really have to sink the winning shot in the last basketball game of the season?

Normally, I don’t go spoiling movies like that, but (a) surely none of you would ever watch this thing, and (b) it was so profoundly formulaic that I’m convinced that watching the first 20 minutes would tell you anything you might want to know about the rest of it. And I guess that’s pretty much the point, for this genre.
