“On the Feast of Stephen”
Dec. 26th, 2011 10:29 pm- I talked D. into playing “Good King Wenceslas” as part of his clarinet practice today – it’s a regular part of his repertoire, and I thus got to fit a tidbit of religious/medieval history education into the day, explaining that this is the Feast of Stephen. (Later I got to explain what nuns are, correcting his impression of “female priests,” while we watched Leverage.)
- Meanwhile, when I looked up the song in Wikipedia, I learned that Wenceslas is an Anglicized version of Vaclav, as in Vaclav Havel.
- One great benefit of pot roast as a holiday meal is that I really like the leftovers. Yum, roast beef sandwiches!
- The fellow who wrote the Jig the Goblin trilogy has also self-published an anthology of five Goblin Tales about Jig and his friends. Santa acquired a copy from Lulu for D’s stocking, and D. exclaimed, “There’s something awesome in there!” when he first glimpsed it, yay Santa! Tonight we read the first of the stories.
- I wish I could find my copy of A Monstrous Regiment of Women, the second Mary Russell novel. It’s not with the others. I think I’ll go look some more.
