A typical Sunday in December
Dec. 11th, 2011 11:00 pmToday we spent time at the Holiday Fair, the indoor winter version of the Saturday Market, full of beautiful, handmade crafts made by local people. Yes, there’s tie-dye, what would Eugene be without tie-dye? But there’s also so much creativity. I waited too long to give a tip to the young boy playing extraordinary violin solos; when I got back out there, he was gone and the next musicians were setting up. Then: I finished our outdoor lights, we ate spaghetti and watched Leverage and fought the frost dragon in the Baldur’s Gate game, then I napped a bit, and then I read the creepiest part of The Hobbit to D. Bilbo is lost and alone in Mirkwood Forest.
Also we saw an unusual bird in Amazon Creek near the fairgrounds, among all the ducks. Medium-large with blue wings and back, and mostly brown chest. I'm pretty sure it was a kingfisher; Google Images assures me that they don't always have spiky head-feathers, which this one didn't seem to have. (The one I saw once near the Millrace did and was more recognizable.)
