D. and I have started The Hobbit again. Last time we got about a third of the way through it, then got bogged down. With B, we got all the way through The Hobbit when he was only five, but I’d told him the entire story first, as entertainment on the long car drive home from a family reunion in the mountains. (Then we got bogged down in The Fellowship of the Ring – they spend an awful lot of time just trying to get to Rivendell.) Anyway, this time D. is enthusiastic, and we have a big coffee-table version of it with the Rankin-Bass drawings.
