Happy birthday!

D. had the day off school, which meant we could spend all afternoon together! He gave me a beautiful cloisonné necklace and a little plush grey squirrel. Unfortunately, I felt even more sick than yesterday and tried sleeping more, but it didn’t help. I cancelled my weekly meeting with G. I did buy myself a fancy roast beef sandwich for lunch, and D. and I watched Thundercats while eating. Then I rested on the couch and watched Star Trek: TNG. Later in the afternoon, J. came over, with more presents: The Alloy of Law (the new Sanderson novel, the one he dashed off last fall during a “break from writing”), a fancy box of Euphoria sugar-free chocolates, a bag of fresh walnuts from his Aunt Diane’s farm, and a “Stonehenge Rocks” keychain. D. practiced his clarinet, and we watched Mythbusters. When D. was gone, J. and I went on a walk in the foggy night with a friendly wandering Siamese cat (a probable relative of Lillian’s); I also had a cheeseburger and fries from the Highlands for dinner (Lillian tried to help with an onion slice). Then when D. was back, we watched Kiki’s Delivery Service, a very low-key Miyazaki film set in a wondrously charming Germanic city. (“Herring and pumpkin pot pie”?) (And check out the Swedish town he based the place on – they really captured the flavor of this place in the movie, and now D. wants to live there.) I then tucked D. in, and J. and I watched the most recent Castle episode, then worked on his travel plans for next week. Then we looked a bit at the pictures of his drive across the country, before I got too tired and he went home.

Also, I got a card from my sister, and one from D, and nice birthday wishes from R, and wow, 36 birthday greetings on Facebook, and four here – thank you! All in all, despite being tiresomely unwell physically, and despite not getting to see B, it was a very nice day.
