Friends = happy

eve_primeWe went to a great party tonight – one of D’s oldest friends’ parents threw a party and invited most of the kids and parents from their class. We’ve known them for years now, and so many of the parents, too, and we enjoy them so much, and it was a great time. Good food, wonderful conversations. Except for the smoke bombs. I could have done without the smoke bombs.
Favorite parts: Hearing from Sarah C. about the turtle rescue trip to Costa Rica, which our school’s Spanish teacher leads every year. Their whole family went. They had beach patrol duties 11 p.m. to 3 a.m., and they also did the zip line thing in the rain forest canopy, multiple times, and saw all manner of wildlife except the jaguars.
And also: Watching the kids all dancing together, boys and girls, with fun music and a strobe light. That is, they were all dancing in the same room, in close proximity, enjoying the music together, but probably trying not to be aware of the fact that they were “together.” D. was wearing a sparkly multicolored top hat, like one he has at home, and a “Rock Band” guitar, and jumping up and down.
And also: Watching him play the “Rock Band” drums.
And also: Watching the kids in the big, round, enclosed trampoline, lying on their backs, looking up at the sky, sharing their deep kid-thoughts.
And also: Seeing and talking with Tara and Rachel and Susan and Mary and Mia and Wendy and Sarah and Damon and John and Ken and Bill and, really, all of them.
I hope I can be friends with these people forever.
