Firefly vs. Eureka

Today D. asked me which show I preferred, Firefly or Eureka. He has a very hard time accepting that sometimes one cannot choose a favorite between two things, asking me repeatedly just to pick. Well, I couldn’t very well say that Firefly is a better show, even though I certainly believe that to be the case, because he’s too young to “get” Firefly, and because I don’t want in any way to discourage his interest in Eureka. I finally came up with a truthful statement, that I’d rather that there were 100 episodes of Eureka than 100 episodes of Firefly. I suppose that’s because Eureka is light, so 100 episodes of it don’t have that much psychic weight, whereas with the pathos of Firefly, 100 episodes might be almost oppressive. Certainly there should be more than 14 of them, though.
