Spring break: Friday

eve_primeD’s hosting his second sleepover, and two of his oldest friends are here. We walked over to Safeway to get them all sodas and to rent a movie. DH is pretty self-assertive, and he wanted candy instead of the soda. Nope, I said. They chose their drinks; two colas and for D, an açai-blueberry-pomegranate vitamin water.
Then the movie. DH was enthusiastic about a wide range of R movies, then settled on Grownups as the best possible choice. SS demurred, “Sure, it’s hilarious, but it also isn’t really appropriate.” Then D. declared that I wouldn’t let them get any PG-13s. (Not true, but hey, if they’re going to police themselves...) Eventually they chose Despicable Me, which they’d all seen before. Then DH asked, could he have a giant pickle instead of the soda? Well, okay.
Two hours later, and they’re bored with the movie. They’ve eaten the popcorn and drunk their beverages. The giant pickle has been sampled and retired to the kitchen. Out comes the plastic swords, and SS starts bouncing a pingpong ball against the wall. I’m reading in here, in the bedroom. Suddenly, D. comes in, looking sheepish. “Do we have any air freshener?” Turns out the pickle had been brought back into action, and they’d ended up spilling pickle juice on the carpet in the dining area. They cleaned it all up, though.
Now they’re in their jammies, playing the latest Pokémon DS game, which they all have. Half an hour ago, their friend NK played a prank call on us, claiming to be DH, but DH was wise to it, and when I asked, NK ’fessed up. What next? At least they’re quiet now, and I bet they’ll be asleep before I am.
