B. had a new perspective for thinking about the vexing family issue, and it's better to have a way to think about things than to just be baffled by them, so that's helpful. At work, H. said he thought it would be better for me to follow my heart than to get a Ph.D., but he thinks my heart is in my social support pilot, whereas my heart is more in the stuff I'm working on on my own. We shall see. And surely these things aren't mutually exclusive!

I saw the renovated intersection of 13th and University, the "heart of the campus," but didn't find it all that impressive (or different). Later, I heard the hourly chimes while walking past the Pioneer cemetery (clouds of smaller-than-gnats!) to renew my UO books, and they were much nearer than before, and I wonder why I've never found out where they ring from. I listened to Richard Thompson's old recording of "Night Comes In" all the way home. I kind of like being able to hear the crackles of the old LPs on my tapes. Yet more Columbia work this evening, and I'm about to start designing my slides.
