I'm way behind on my "sun books" -- only two finished out of nine or so, and only a month or so left until reading outside becomes more of a trial and less of a pleasure. Nearly everything I've read this summer has been set in Britain or Maine, which is unfortunate because I'm happy to read such books at any time of the year, whereas the books set in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and India are much more fun for me to read in the summer. I started the Persian mythology book today, which has wonderful pictures of ancient ruins, Islamic architecture, tilework, and miniatures with lots of fantasy creatures like dragons, griffons, and simurghs. This book will be a nice companion to the book about Zoroastrian culture. I also intend to finish the book about the medieval queen of Sicily (I'm about a third of the way done), and in a few weeks I can probably order the next Falco novel from my Canadian supplier.
We had such striking clouds today, pretty ones in the clear blue sky. I took pictures mid-day and around 4 p.m., and when R. got home he started telling me about his own cloud experiences. He was 10 miles east of here, at the nursery, and there they had clouds that looked like Portuguese man-o'-wars! (Men-o'-war?) My 4 p.m. picture:
