In praise of the two-party system

No, I'm not referring to politics, where I rather like the French way: one very multi-party election where everyone votes with their heart, and then a run-off where everyone votes with their head. The two-party system I'm referring to is the one where we celebrate TM's attainment of age 5 at the park, 1:30-3:30 p.m., and then we celebrate H's attainment of 60 (last May) at his home, 4 p.m. 'til D's bedtime. I need to wrap the gift for the former and make a salad for the latter.
