A rain teaser
Jul. 18th, 2004 09:16 pmIt barely rains in Eugene in July. Over the past 60-some years, Eugene has averaged 2 July days a year with rain > 0.01 inches. Today may well not count as rain either, but still, it was interesting. First, while R. and DH were at I, Robot and D. was napping, I was reading The Grey King outside, and it started to sprinkle... sort of. Three droplets hit me in the space of, oh, maybe two minutes. I didn't want the book to get wet; it was perfectly comfortable otherwise, being about 85. So I got my umbrella out of the car and sat back on the lawn chair and read like that. Maybe 10 drops of rain hit the umbrella, and that was that. The sky cleared.
Then, about five hours later, the three of them weren't yet back from going to a baseball game (our very paltry minor-league Emeralds vs. Everett), and I thought I'd sit outside and read a travel article about Portugal's castles. I opened the door and discovered it had resumed raining, and more seriously than before, so I hastened to put our old blue tarp over DH's rental car (a really hot red Mustang convertible). By the time I had it all secured, though, the rain had stopped again.
I'd love to have a covered porch like Wendy's, where I could sit and read in the rain and listen.
