All Fours, by Miranda July. This was chosen for our mini-book club by someone who could relate to the main character's situation, but the main character had huge, huge issues in being able to communicate (at least with her partner, though she could tell her best friend anything), and lied about things right and left. My friend who chose the book, by contrast, is forthright and a good communicator - and all around a much nicer person than the main character. It's probably obvious that I didn't like the main character and couldn't much relate to her (she was obsessed with sex and seemed to have no clue about her own basic values), but I still found the book interesting to read. It should be quite a discussion.

That book looks kind of good to me. It sounds raw and off the cuff. I just might read it. :)

I finished the book last night. What a very strange and graphic book. It was a tad too lesbian for me but some of the menopause issues she addressed so well. I struggled badly with menopause and it could have easily broken up our marriage. I started perimenopause when I was 41 and had the worst hot flashes and also such fluctuation emotions and anxiety. Crazy times!

I should have realized that a book about it was her project. It is a very novel idea about the hotel room, that sounds like an amazing getaway.

I found it odd she never helped decorate her house. I like to feel at home in a house with lots of my things around.

Thanks for posting about it.

That is what people told me at the time too. And I gave up alcohol and caffeine and cut way back on sugar. Started meditating more too. No change. I was so frustrated. but my mom had a difficult menopause, I remember her crying a lot. So maybe that is part of it. I did go to a more natural doctor though and the bioidentical hormones she put me on did help some.

That hotel yes!!!!

That would be interesting to know how it affected your mom. I also wonder if it's my nervous system. It's interesting.

I just remembered what I wanted to ask you...what did your mini book club friend think about it?
