Skipping the symphony
Apr. 18th, 2024 11:58 pmI've been trying to buy a copy of my friend's wife's most recent novel, and it's proving a challenge. Our local bookstore wasn't able to order it (it was published in 2019), so I bought a copy from Amazon. But when it arrived yesterday, the cover was very sticky (!!!) on both sides, and the book was scented, too. I sent it back today. If the replacement is also a problem, then I'll have to do more research. Maybe I can buy it directly from the publisher.
I was still somewhat motion-sick from that movie today, so I decided not to go to the symphony, especially after listening to a few bars of the Liszt piece on YouTube made me feel a bit worse. Instead, I read outside a while in the sunshine, watched the rest of a PBS series about Julius Caesar, worked on my paper a while, submitted a letter to the editor about our local hospital situation, and took a walk. I went south on a reasonably flat and straight road until I came to the little bamboo grove, then a block beyond that, then I walked back. I photographed quite a few flowering trees (dogwood, crabapple, etc.), and some very pretty violets that were growing in the shade of the bamboo, but this photo was my favorite:

Also, I learned that in the fall we're going to have a concert with music from Avatar: The Last Airbender! D. told me about it; he and S. already had tickets. I found an email with a promotional code and now I have tickets too.

Date: 2024-04-21 09:09 pm (UTC)Yes, I returned it. It's easy to return to Amazon here, I just get a code on my computer and then show it at the UPS store. I hope the second copy, which arrives tomorrow, will be okay...
