Music time
Mar. 12th, 2024 11:54 pmToday was about shifting gears away from being supportive of the guys' Magic: The Gathering efforts and toward enjoying music. It's concert week. I attended a symphony master class with Bella Hristova, whom I remember from her previous visit four or five years ago, and although the violin-playing was fine, what I most appreciated was learning about an absolutely gorgeous piece, "El poema de un Sanluqueña," op.28 by Joaquin Turina. (The internet tells me that that fancy word would refer to a woman from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a city in southern Spain.) Hristova was also quite taken with it, having not heard it before.
After that, I came home and chatted a bit with my neighbor to the south, who'd seen a post from Amber about the problems at that one house and who wanted more details, naturally.
J. and I then went to dinner at McMenamin's, because they were donating 50% of their proceeds to our youth orchestra! That seems quite generous. We had a nice little table in the corner, and I introduced him to three women and their companions.
I had been looking forward to using my symphony ticket voucher to get J. a seat next to mine at Thursday's performance, since they're doing my favorite Beethoven symphony (#7), but I discovered that my voucher had expired at the end of the calendar year. Last year's had been good for the whole season, so I hadn't checked. Then it turned out that nearly the entire concert hall has been sold out - if I really wanted, I could spend a bunch and get us both seats further back, but it's probably not worth it.
Then, coming up, on Sunday I have a Delgani concert stream, which I'll probably miss in favor of an early music concert at the neighborhood Episcopal church, though I can watch the video later, and I'll see the concert in person on Tuesday. I have three educational videos to watch before the concert. And the Delgani class on Beethoven's first set of string quartets starts on Monday.
