A race against the weather
Jan. 8th, 2024 11:52 pmAlthough most of the rest of the country is expecting dramatic weather, and our own forecast of 2-3 inches of snow later this week is now just rain, we do expect quite a bit of rain. The forecast said it would start this evening, and all day we had noteworthy winds in the trees. I wanted to get my errands done today, as much as I could, so I was in a bit of a rush.
First was the postal adventure, which I've written up in a friends=locked post because it necessarily includes my address. Once that was done, the next thing up was getting J's car to the mechanic - his appointment is for 9 a.m. tomorrow and I didn't want him out in the rain before he's even fully awake. Then we got organized for our usual late-afternoon Monday meal at the Bier Stein, but DG was a bit later than usual, so I went to the library first to get J's book club book (and an interesting-sounding one that was ready for me), then I drove to the Bier Stein to meet them. Nope, closed for a day of "improvements."
I phoned J, and they were just half a block away, outside Mandy's, a 24-hour restaurant in the same building that used to have Tino's Spaghetti House, where my parents went on dates in the 1950s, and which I knew from many 1970s dinner. We decided to try it. The music was much better than the usual noise in the Bier Stein - they played the one Fleetwood Mac song I really like, and then "Jolene," which I don't mind, and then it was generally quiet. The food was fine. D ordered a giant waffle covered with whipped cream and sundae sauces, which was altogether decadent.
I brought the leftovers home, got that cost analysis paper resubmitted again (yay), and settled in for a cozy evening. I watched about half of the first episode of All Creatures Great and Small season 4, then I went to J's house and enjoyed several hours of reading. Now it's raining pretty hard!
