J worked late today, and when he was done he wanted to ride his bike down to Amazon Park. We talked about what time I'd need to leave the house on foot to meet him at Tugman Park, which is between home and Amazon Park, and concluded it was 7:45. It took him a few minutes to get going, so when I hadn't left home until 7:42 I figured it was okay. I made it to the main part of the park at 7:49 but couldn't see him. Obviously I hadn't had much exercise yet, so I decided to walk to the far end of the park, since he would enter the park there and continue on the path.

I got to the far end of the park and could see him approaching along the sidewalk next to the street, so I dashed out of the woods to meet him on the path. He didn't turn on the path, though, and didn't even look in my direction, nor hear me when I called his name three times. He just kept going, very quickly, on the sidewalk. I took a photo of where I was and sent it to him on Skype, then started heading back.

Meanwhile, he had gotten into a conversation at Amazon Park and wanted to rush back to meet me. Just as I knew which path he would take through the park (based on two previous experiences of meeting him there), he knew that I would either be sitting on a bench in the center of the park or still coming down the hill near our house. When he got to the top of the hill and I wasn't there, he figured I must be at home and got his phone out to check whether I'd messaged him on Skype. Just then I phoned him and he answered.

We were reunited minutes later and walked all the way back to the far end of the park again, then home. I did get some exercise after all! It was amusing that we each had a clear expectation for the other based on just two previous experiences, and that neither actually matched that expectation.
