Fun-ness!

One of the moms of kids D’s age has organized a group of women to walk in the neighborhood on Tuesdays, which I think I mentioned last week, and this time we had five of us, and more daylight than usual, and it was terrific. We walked through the neighborhood, on trails up the hill into the adjacent neighborhood, then back down through the nearer of the two cemeteries. At the upper (western) part of the cemetery, we heard treefrogs looking for mates. Fortunately, Pacific treefrogs are weathering the problems besetting other amphibians pretty well, at least in areas where bullfrogs aren’t taking over.

One of the women moved here from Korea six months ago, and we got to hear about how they’re experiencing climate change already, which they think could be from Chinese factories as well as global warming. We also learned that they like to dress up their small dogs.

After that, D. played through the new book of clarinet music I’d bought him this afternoon, and J. experimented with his own new book of flute music. They’re focusing on popular music they recognize. Actually, as soon as he got home from school today and found the book, D. started sight-reading the unfamiliar songs aloud – I love that he’s learned how to do that already. I should transcribe some of the flute music into a lower register for him.
