I grew up in a family where pretty much everyone but me was highly conflict avoidant. Sure, they had preferences and desires, but if satisfying them involved interacting with others, forget it. I remember my mom once refusing to ask the counter help in McDonald's for a packet of catsup that she very much wanted because she "didn't want to impose." (Good grief!) So I can't help but wonder what it would have been like to have a mother who would force a hotel to open two weeks early...
