Day 653: Mush and ice
Dec. 29th, 2021 11:59 pmToday J. had his booster shot, and he's been resting all afternoon and evening. D's friends had planned to have a holiday party this evening but they cancelled due to Omicron (I like that they're even more cautious than I am - Omicron is barely here yet). Instead he went to S's house to order food before it got dark, which was when the temperature was going to drop.
Then I watched Oregon's bowl game, which didn't really amount to much watching. I use the football games as my time to get caught up on my newspaper backlog, since you barely need to pay attention, and if you miss something it's easy to replay it. I started the game with a fairly big stack of papers, but I made it through all of them! Oregon played poorly, and they were lucky to get a final score of Oklahoma 47, Oregon 32. I'm the happy sort of fan who enjoys winning and pretty much ignores losing, so that was fine.
Then I wanted to go visit J and the kittens. In the afternoon, we'd made a point to use J's snow shovel to get all the snow off a path between his house and mine, so that none of the slush would turn to ice. So when the game was done I set forth, taking baby steps, but I wasn't even as far as my old car in my own driveway before I slipped - the sidewalk was still wet, and thus had become icy even without the snow. I'm fine, I didn't fall, but I did turn around and go back inside. I also texted D, telling him about the ice. I'd assumed he was staying at S's house, but a few minutes ago he came in the front door. He's been wearing J's old shoes since his own aren't sturdy enough for this weather, and I guess they have great traction. It was nice to have him appear without ever worrying about whether he'd do all right.
