Day 643: Rainy, quiet Sunday

eve_primeToday I got the tree all set up in the livingroom - it's a plastic one, as I'm allergic/sensitive to fresh ones. (Probably terpene; lots of people are sensitive to terpene.) D. had to work today, though, so we didn't have time to decorate it. I also got gifts ordered for B. and his girlfriend, and I mailed him a card and a check. Then I organized the gifts for D. and J; once the tree is complete I can start wrapping them.
After he got home from work, D. decided he did want to talk to a medical person about his cut, so I drove him to the urgent care - actually, to two, but neither was open. Now he has a plan to go there tomorrow.
Also, he mentioned again that he's thinking of not going to teach in Korea for a year after all, since it would be very hard on his relationship. I encouraged him to think about what he would do instead (which really is a timely conversation, since he'd need a plan for something to do once he'd come back from Korea even if he did go, and he's not qualified for much else). It would be a lot cheaper to add a second major before he gets his bachelor's degree! It looks like he could complete the major that supports teaching social studies with one more year of school (plus, of course, the master's degree after that, which is another 15 months but that's mostly teaching).
I do hope he can get to Korea at some point. He's gone to all the trouble of learning Korean and getting the English-teaching certificate. There's no reason he would have to do it immediately, though; he could do it any year, as long as he's not too embroiled in other life commitments. I would feel a lot better if he were qualified for a regular professional job of some sort - like teaching social studies - since up to this point his education has qualified him only for teaching English to non-English speakers, for going to grad school in linguistics (which doesn't interest him), and for going to law school (which also doesn't interest him).
