Today we had two friends come over (DG and JC), plus D, to play J's favorite four-person version of Magic the Gathering. They only had time for one game, because JC has a very young daughter, so DG and D didn't get to play the decks they'd built, but they've saved that for another day. I socialized, served the cake, and otherwise curled up on the couch and read.

Later J. and I watched the first episode of the new Wheel of Time TV series. I am probably in the 10th book (out of 14) but stopped there several years ago. Surely they'll greatly reduce the complexity of the series for television. The adaptation seemed fine so far, visually appealing, etc., even though it was unkind of them to give Perrin a wife to be killed by the Trollocs at the beginning. Poor Perrin. The complicated part was that the actresses who play Egwene and Nynaeve look so similar.

Our kitten Azalyn has been missing all day. She's normally on my porch whenever her brothers are, curled up in their stacked baskets, so it's stressful that she's disappeared. Our best hope is that she wandered off and into H's house (to which I guess cats have some sort of mysterious access?) and didn't want to leave because of the rain. It seems unlikely that someone would steal her, both because she's wearing a collar and because the weather hasn't been conducive to walking in the neighborhood to even notice her. She's not very aware of cars, though. I fussed extra over Tertius and Ambrose. Update: I checked one last time at 3 am, and there she was, quite bedraggled. I brought her in to show D (much purring), then put her back outside with an extra can of the wet food, as she'd missed it earlier (much rejoicing).
