Day 628: It's official!
Dec. 4th, 2021 10:23 pmFirst I should note that today I was quite productive, physically, having raked most of the oak leaves off my driveway and down to the street, for pickup in the next week or so, and having organized what I could of the mess of stuff behind my house, which our blackberry-removal guy is going to haul away for me in the next few days (assuming he follows through - and it literally took months to get him here to do the blackberry vines themselves). One of the biggest chores was removing chunks of concrete that R. had collected in a large wooden box (I do not know why, but I want to save the large wooden box). Anyway, as we were winding things up (because it was getting too dark), our neighbor H. appeared, driving past my house in a borrowed pick-up truck, and looking right in my direction. H! We hadn't seen him in weeks and weeks.
So I headed right over to where he was parking, and yes, he's fine with our adoption of the three kittens, and yes, he even approves of my intention to get their mother spayed too. My vague memory was correct - she's more or less his cat, having been adopted as a kitten by his grand-daughter years ago. He'll ask the girl's parents what the cat's name is. (I call her "Snoofy" because of the weird sniffing sounds she makes while she eats. I hope her real name is better than that.)
He also let us know that six black cats had been dumped at his house in the past week - let us hope they don't also find their way to my porch! People dump cats at his house about once a year, on average, and then he has to figure out what to do with them. But now he's mostly in Southern Oregon as his wife awaits her turn at a hospital bed for non-urgent surgery. (COVID has gobbled up most of the hospital beds in the parts of the state where vaccination is resisted.)
So the kittens are 100% ours now! We are all delighted.
