Day 598: A garden surprise
Nov. 4th, 2021 11:57 pmAfter J. finished work today, he came outside to play with the cats I'd collected on his front porch - the three kittens plus Oberon and Blitzen. We sat there petting the cats and kittens - it's fine for Oberon to knead his claws on my lap when I'm wearing my thick bathrobe - when all at once we had a surprise. Over in the corner of the yard, beneath a moderately big Japanese maple, a rather large doe had been invisibly napping. She stood up!
She was only 30-40 feet from us, J. and I were startled, but the cats took it more in stride. The deer tried to leave the yard through one of the gaps in the iron fence, which didn't work out well for her, and J. and I concluded we were too close to the actual exit from the yard so we went indoors. Eventually she did wander out, and headed down the driveway, with two of the kittens stalking her, only maybe a yard away at times. Pretty cute.
I was disappointed to wake today with a new migraine. So much for being healthy and productive now...
