Day 511: And furniture

eve_primeI had been procrastinating making actual plans to get my office furniture, then today I looked at the weather forecast and thought, oops. Today's high was going to be around 79 (actually it was 85), but the rest of the week was going to be quite hot. I spent time researching U-Haul, but it was going to be a big hassle; the place that had a relatively small vehicle wasn't going to have it until 30 minutes before their closing time, and the website didn't say if there was a way to turn it in after hours, so, blah.
Then J. asked DG, who has a pickup truck, and I'll quote his response: "Anytime! Literally, anytime. That's why I own it." Then he offered to do it today, and then he suggested we could do it soon, and within minutes we were driving to my office to meet him there. We got the computer desk, smaller bookshelf, ergonomic chair, extra chair (which J. decided he wanted), floor lamp, and even the unexpectedly heavy wooden file cabinet. They unloaded everything onto my lawn, and a bit later I managed to get it all inside the house, mostly but not entirely blocking the entryway. Oh, and the funny bit was when the base of the lamp fell apart! Apparently it was made of concrete inside a plastic base, which had cracked? Large chunks fell on the driveway. There's no good way to repair it other than duct tape...
I spent the rest of the day reading, eating, and socializing with the kittens, and J. (who'd already been worn out from sword class before all this) took a much deserved nap.
