It starts rather oddly. We begin with a Supreme Court justice with serious mental issues, and it takes a while to learn that he's a good guy, though he spends the rest of the book in a coma. He's devised a complicated puzzle for his law clerk to solve, which would both address the problems caused by a seriously bad president and save the life of the son he abandoned. The law clerk, our heroine, is struggling to get through life with a junkie mother, but she has quite a few traits the justice valued. It all moves at a very fast pace!
