This is the latest Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes novel, and this time they're in Romania, as guests of Queen Marie (it's 1925), helping to solve a mystery at Castle Bran, in Transylvania. Great fun, as always, and I appreciated the subtlety of having what started as a negative feature for one character turn into a positive. That is, at the beginning, Russell imagines the castle's major-domo's pointy teeth to look vampiric, then at the end a young man who'd deserted during the war (he was too young to enlist in the first place) was found to be hiding in the castle, and Russell eventually sees his smile and realizes he's actually the major-domo's son, though the young man doesn't know it, and thus we readers know he'll be well looked after).
