So remarkable! We have houseguests, of course vaccinated - J's longtime friend JM, whom I've met many times before; JM's girlfriend N, whom we hadn't met before; and their housemate M. M. was moving to Calgary but they can't cross the border into Canada (even with proper visas, etc.), so they've turned the trip into a visit to many national parks.

They arrived at J's house this evening, and we all had dinner together (including D). N. is great fun, and I really like M. as well. They're all mathematicians; N and M are grad students, and JM's a professor.

The plan had been to drive to Crater Lake tomorrow with J, spend tomorrow night at J's house, then head north to Portland on Wednesday, visiting Silver Falls with J and our friend DG on the way. However, it's rather cold at Crater Lake tomorrow, but it will be quite nice on Wednesday, so tomorrow they may just hang out here and do Crater Lake Wednesday, spending another night with us. (An alternate plan of going to the coast tomorrow didn't work out, as it's likely to rain at the coast tomorrow, and they'd be there during high tide, so, no tidepools.)

We're glad to have friends visiting, but it sure seems unusual to have friends in the house. Yet when we're sitting there chatting for hours, it also feels natural.
