Day 430: Moribund Camry, home again
May. 19th, 2021 11:55 pmThis afternoon I was finally available to have the car towed back, and although it took a few phone calls, eventually it arrived. The tow truck driver drove up the long driveway (the one to J's house, from which mine is perpendicular), released my car, put it in neutral, then sat down inside it and steered it very deftly backwards into my own driveway, facing outward, just as I wanted. At some point I can get all my stuff out and donate the rest of the car to charity, but today it was lightly raining (and later loudly hailing), and I realized, there is no rush! I could keep my car in my own driveway forever, if I actually wanted to do such a thing, so now I can relax. No deadlines. I do want to buy a new one, but there's no deadline for that either.
I also finally turned my attention properly to the grant proposal due June 25, which mostly has to be finished earlier than that. I emailed my two co-investigators with an idea for simplifying it. In one sense, I don't really care - I just want to focus on my book and related projects. But in another sense, I do - it would mean money for my employer, and I'd be able to move up in status to "senior scientist." I discovered that it's closer to completion than I realized, though, which is fantastic.
