Day 418: A day of conversations
May. 7th, 2021 11:59 pmLet's see. Today I woke up all allergic again; walking outside yesterday must have contributed, though I showered right afterward. We walked again today, though - so many pretty spring flowers to enjoy.
I didn't get any work done as I had to spend all afternoon waiting for calls and conversing on the phone. I called AAA to tow my car to the mechanic, and I soon got an automated call that said they'd be arriving in five minutes, so I went outside. It actually took 20 minutes for the tow truck to arrive, but I had a long conversation with my chatty neighbor while I waited. She's hoping her house price will go up even more in the next six years, then when her daughter's graduated from college she can sell this house and buy land in the country for her real dream, running an animal sanctuary. Also, her daughter's father had died in December from COVID, unfortunately; he lived in Idaho.
Then there was the matter of getting social security numbers from the other three beneficiaries for my mom's estate. I'd emailed my step-brothers last night, and M. said he'd call around 3 pm, but he didn't, so I called him around 3:30. I got the info and we talked for maybe 5 minutes, but it was time for his dinner (in Massachusetts) so he asked if he could call back in a bit too. Then I called S (in California), and we chatted for 18 minutes - he and his wife had had COVID in December, also, and he'd gotten to have a monoclonal antibody treatment. They're okay now. Then M. called back and we chatted for another 20 minutes. So that was all nice. Then I called my sister and left a message on her machine.
J. and I headed out for a walk, but I took my reading glasses and pen so I could write down the info when K called back, which she eventually did. And she had the nerve to complain about how long it was taking to get her money! I was shocked! I mean, the whole reason it's taking so long is because the accountant she picked out years ago is being so slow with processing all the special extra stuff that she could have prevented by selling the stupid mutual fund back when she was in charge of my mom's money. I mean, sure, she went and got a new roof on her house expecting this money to pay for it, but none of the delay or her need is my fault. Blah.
