Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, by Ibram X. Kendi. This is an important (and long) book that takes us all the way through American history tracing three worldviews: segregationist (Black people are inferior and it would be great if they'd just go away), assimilationist (Black people can eventually catch up to white people if they work at it and earn their respect), and antiracist (Black people deserve full human treatment and rights, just like everyone else, right now). He also explains that racist policies don't spring from racist beliefs, but rather, racist beliefs are promoted by those with racist self-interests - and that racism has kept making its own form of "progress" right alongside antiracism. It's a great book.
