Day 375: Another vaccination attempt
Mar. 25th, 2021 11:59 pmToday I called the Walmart just after 2:30, as D's friend had recommended, and they expected to have a surplus of 15 doses. We were planning to leave at 3 when J's work meeting ended, but it ended early, so I asked D. to rush, but he had to eat breakfast and brush his teeth and all that. Then we drove hastily to Walmart.
(It was my first time inside a Walmart - I have personally boycotted it for decades.)
The line was huge! But we figured if we stood in the line, we'd at least learn more about it. I'd guess there were at least 40-50 people ahead of us, in groups spaced 6' apart or so. When we got to the end of the line, D's friends were there too! It turned out that just JS had been vaccinated yesterday, so MM was there, along with three of her roommates and D's other friend MW. I recognized MW more or less (his appearance changes), but not MM, whom I've known for years, because this would have been the first time I'd seen her since she stopped identifying as male. She didn't say hi to us, either, so I didn't know it was her 'til we were driving home.
We waited about 20 minutes, then a pharmacist came and told us that there were enough for everyone in that whole long line except for us and all but one of D's friends' group (then later it turned out that they had 4 fewer doses and that person didn't get it either).
Overall, we were encouraged. This seems doable! They don't get doses tomorrow, though; yesterday and today were their only days this week. We'll hope that their next week's schedule will be a good fit for ours. We're thinking we'd leave rather earlier and expect to spend even more time in the line, since they have to wait until everyone who'd missed an appointment earlier in the day has a chance to show up.
J. wanted to feel our trip to Walmart wasn't wasted, beyond the value of the information and experience we'd acquired, so we bought him some ant poison. Then I saw that their flower seed packets were only 20 cents each! So now, not only have I been inside Walmart, but I have also bought bachelor's button seeds from Walmart.
