Day 366: Two minor excitements
Mar. 16th, 2021 03:14 amThe first minor excitement was that the fencing master was planning to bring J. an "arming sword" for when they do one-handed lessons, the other hand holding a buckler (a small circular shield). He said he'd arrive relatively late in J's afternoon open interval, 2-5 pm, so around 3 pm I went outside to work on the yard, so as not to miss him, as I was looking forward to chatting with him a bit as well. And he did come, and the three of us did get to chat a bit.
The other minor excitement was that J. and I both got unexpected emails from the county, with a link to register to get the vaccine! But it said the invitation was for people classified as 1A priority, which doesn't even remotely include us. And yet it didn't say, "click this link if you fit the criteria," it said, "this link is only for you so don't share it with others" or words to that effect. We wondered what was going on, had the county messed up? We tried phoning the number in the email, but the machine said they weren't taking calls. We tried contacting our friend who works for the county health department, but she didn't reply. The fencing master assured us that ethicists say if you get an opportunity for the vaccine, you should get it. Finally, we clicked the link, and it took us to a page that asked whether we fit the criteria, and we said no, and it said they'd already filled all their slots for the week.
So who knows? Officially we're scheduled to be eligible on June 1 (July 1 for D, whose email today hadn't included a link), but Biden says it will be May 1 for everyone. But if they're offering it to some people early, I guess next time we should leap on it? Maybe they're trying to fit some people in early so as not to have too huge a rush on May 1?
