eve_primeToday G's weekly lab meeting was interesting. In earlier research, he'd found survey items to distinguish between people who are "religious" and those who are "spiritual," and now they've looked at the data with slightly different methods and have determined that the "spiritual" group is really two groups, those with animistic beliefs and those believing in a more philosophical spirituality, like Henri Bergson or Meister Eckhart. He also presented some info on the early beginnings of the development of deistic religions and mentioned the Master/Mistress of Animals concept as something some animistic groups developed as a more abstract way of thinking about the ineffable - which was cool, as years ago I collected lots and lots of info about the Mistress of Animals trope, especially Artemis but also a lot of other Indo-European deities who may have been cognates. I need to remember to write and tell G. about that.
Later, J. and I went on a walk, and we ended up going up that staircase near Edgewood School again - it's pretty good exercise, especially after walking up the hill to get to the staircase in the first place. Later we chatted online a bit with DG and AA, who are enjoying a mini-vacation at the coast, and who shared a couple of videos with us.
