Today's highlights, for me, were watching more TV shows: one about the history of Japan from first peoples to the modern era, one about some ancient Greek device called the antikythera that functioned as a sort of computer, and one about the Roman physician Galen (though we switched in the middle of that to watching King of the Hill). I also read a bit of a book about the Shinto religion, and a bit of one about the early Moghul emperors of India (beautifully illustrated, of course), and tried to tackle some of the worst grass in the flowerbed.

I really liked the show about Japanese history today, as well as the one about Shinto a few days ago, and I'm starting to feel tempted to get out some of my Japanese novels again. My last semester at Berkeley, I abruptly got tired of econ and decided to indulge myself for my last few credits, with a Tolstoy class and Modern Japanese Lit (1870-present). Then over that summer I was quite the fanatic about Japanese literature; I read something like 70 book-length works. Unfortunately, I loved them a bit too much and completely burnt myself out on Japanese literature. But that was a long time ago... maybe I could ease my way back into it?
