Latest Mary Russell book
Aug. 5th, 2005 08:36 pmI worked more on that cost paper today, and got out the item response theory paper too -- how nice it would be to get these things submitted -- and then, rare for me because I seldom read a book straight through, I started and eventually finished Locked Rooms, the latest Mary Russell novel by Laurie R. King. This one is set in San Francisco, circa 1924, esp. Pacific Heights and Chinatown. I really, really recommend the first book in this series, The Beekeeper's Apprentice, and the books that followed have certainly been good too. Mary Russell is one of my very favorite characters. She has a rather rough time in this one, but came through fine. King's use of a historical person as a main character kind of bugged me but I suppose it was more entertaining to write like that than making someone up would have been.
