D's spring break started this afternoon around 2:20 p.m., and he went directly to his girlfriend's house after school, as he normally does on Fridays. I was picturing him having a wonderful time relaxing. R. called to say he wanted to take D. to Portland tomorrow to visit B. and celebrate B's birthday, so I started rushing around making an apple pie that they could deliver to B. for me (he prefers apple pie to birthday cake). I had just taken the pie out of the oven around 9:30 p.m., when D. called. He had come down with a headache and sore throat at school, and since then he'd developed a fever and chills and could barely stand up and "felt like an old man." Sure sounds like he has the 'flu. So I guess he won't be going to Portland, and the allergy testing he was looking forward to on Tuesday is now up in the air. How disappointing, if he has to spend spring break with the 'flu. Better than missing a bunch of classes for it, but still. And I sure feel guilty about never making the effort to get a 'flu shot for him this year.
