In which J. has an exciting time! (And D. survives his boring time.)

Today J. was in Bellevue (a suburb of Seattle) playing in a regional pro tour qualifier for the April MtG tournament in Madrid. He doesn’t normally play the “standard” format, where you create a deck in advance made of reasonably current cards, but he put one together based on published deck lists. After six rounds of play, he made the top 8, as did his friend Cy (who incidentally is R’s girlfriend’s son). Four of the top 8 would qualify for the pro tour; the other four get to play in another regional qualifier in May, for the Sydney pro tour event in August, and they also get 54 booster packs. We were hoping both he and Cy would qualify for Spain, but they got paired against each other. Long story short – J. won, and he gets a free trip to Spain!

Meanwhile, D. has returned safely home from his Idaho adventure, so glad to be off that bus. He is very thankful that one of his roommates actually went to the trouble to bring a Wii U on the trip, which meant they got to play Super Smash Bros. in the evenings. Now he’s on a Skype call, getting caught up with his friends, and I’m trying to clean out his backpack.
