Restaurant skepticism
May. 11th, 2012 10:10 pmThere’s a new Italian restaurant near our house, replacing the failed Mexican restaurant that replaced the independent video store where B. worked as a teenager. The menu items seem kind of pricey, but maybe it’s just that I haven’t kept up with restaurant prices. I decided to try out their “pizza by the slice” to get a general idea of the quality, before investing in a full meal.
So I went over there with the $3 I had in cash, since the menu said slices cost $2.50, which seemed very reasonable to me. The selection was disappointing, though. Taco pizza? Pizza with buffalo wings? Pizza with vodka penne? (That was downright weird – it almost looked like macaroni and cheese, spread on top of pizza dough.) I’d have liked something with, well, olives, or artichoke hearts, or capers, maybe. Finally I settled on chicken with plum tomatoes (although I really don’t think of chicken as a pizza topping, is that too snobby of me?). Then, though, they wanted to charge me $4. Maybe $4 is an okay price for a slice of pizza, but the menu said $2.50, so I just left. Oh well.
What else? In the evening, D. and I played our first croquet match of the year. I finished one of the “post hoc” analyses for my dissertation, and in a bit J. will come over and watch anime with me.
