Date corrected, since LJ was down when I tried to post this last night
Today was surely the most physical taxing day in this whole “moving” business, because today R. brought over the 18 boxes of my mom’s books. These are not small boxes, and my mom favors hardcover books. Getting those boxes into the back of the garage was a real bear! I was dripping sweat, and my face was bright red, and my heart was pounding in my ears. But they’re all back there now (though not, I admit, entirely stacked), and, miracle of miracles, it seems that my back is okay. (I hope R. can say the same; it was much more work lifting them in and out of his truck. On the other hand, he’s way stronger than I am and more used to that kind of thing.)
I’d love to have her books on shelves, but that may have to wait until some distant day when I have a bigger house. Most of them are archaeology (she especially liked Egyptians and Etruscans) and medieval English history, written for the general public. There are also lots of coffee table books about English castles and villages and such.
Today was the warmest day of the year, 89̊ with a breeze. I realize that most of the country is in a dreadful heat wave, and I sympathize with not getting nice weather; ours has just been not-so-great in the other direction. D. and I especially love to go to the pool in the last hour of the day, 7-8 p.m., and today the water was especially warm. We loved it. He must have used the word “paradise” a dozen times.
