Again, the middle school
Mar. 15th, 2011 11:14 pmTonight I took D. to the second school presentation/tour of the middle school in our neighborhood. His friend SS was there with his family, as was his preschool best friend, whom we hadn’t seen in five or six years. I was glad to catch up with his parents. It was pretty cool to see D. and SS on the tour, walking around looking at all the details of the school together, so excited about this next big step. D’s favorite parts of the tour were the cafeteria (and it really is beautiful, especially at night, with its big glass windows looking out onto lichen-covered oak forest) and the library (he noted that it’s so much bigger than the one at the elementary school!)
One great innovation since my junior high days: School dances have now become “activity nights.” Yes, there’s a big room with music for those who want to dance, but! There are also rooms set up for movies, games, and karaoke, and they open up the smaller gym for those who want to shoot hoops. So much less awkward!
