It's pouring rain outside -- kind of perfect, really, for our plans, which are to... surprise!... stay inside and read and watch more movies. R. will have to drive in it, though, to get to his daylily club meeting in Salem. Yesterday it was cloudy, perfect weather for hiking around in the hills a bit; we explored all sorts of new parts of the Amazon Creek Headwaters trail.
J. took the best pictures, and if I had the right driver I could have downloaded them today... I did spend an hour trying to get a driver download site to accept Paypal, to no avail. With luck I can post them tomorrow. Meanwhile, these are (1) a mushroom the color of fallen leaves, (2) an orchid that R. identified as "rattlesnake plantain" (must go back when it's blooming -- note to self: last right-hand trail from main path before the big clearing) and (3) yours truly with a pair of big-leaf maple leaves (check out the Medusa effect of lichen-covered branches behind my head):

After a scant two hours for lunch and reading, we then watched four movies in a row (poor J.). First, Dinosaur, which D. had been eager for J. to see. It's a good movie but I've seen it at least 40 or 50 times now. Second, after R. finished working and picked up some Indian food for us, we watched The Hulk. None of us had seen it before. The directing style was, I suppose, intended to make the viewing experience more like reading a comic book but came off as awfully pretentious, and none of us much liked the movie. R. and D. then went to bed, and J. and I saw X-Men 2: X-Men United, which he (and R.) had seen before. J. and I love the X-Men cartoon, and I'd loved the first movie too, and this one was great as well. I can tell that I'm going to watch it again and again. Finally, we saw Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger. Harryhausen monsters: three fire-demon-minion-skeleton things, the baboon Prince Kassim, the Minoton (bronze minotaur automaton), the seagull, the giant wasp, the giant walrus, the troglodyte, and the saber-tooth cat. Did I forget any?
