Social laziness; Christopher Guest movies
Sep. 11th, 2004 08:18 pmIt's not so much that I'm shy, but I'd procrastinated getting to know the violinist two houses down, and his beautiful Indonesian girlfriend, and now they're moving at the end of the month. He's leaving the Eugene Symphony for the Sacramento Philharmonic, and she's headed back to Indonesia. We got a lot at their garage sale, though -- a carpet that's the exact colors of our livingroom decor (dark green and cream), two very tasteful long-sleeved shirts, a CD for R. ("Promenade" by Divine Comedy), three videos (Prince of Egypt for D., Jurassic Park for when he's older, and a Pilates one for me), some hangers, and three board games (Risk, a version with plastic artillery pieces; Othello, which I've only played on-line as Reversi; Wadjet, an archaeology game that needs four players).
We had Vietnamese food for dinner and watched Waiting for Guffman during that, written by two of the funniest guys of all time, Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy. We didn't get to enjoy it properly the other time we saw it, since we got the news of Princess Diana's accident mid-movie, but this time it was very, very funny, what with the My Dinner with André action figures and Remains of the Day lunch box. Plus, we've seen Best in Show multiple times since then, so it was fun to see the cast in the earlier movie. Christopher Guest is awfully good at playing a redneck in Best in Show, considering that he's actually a British lord (Baron Haden-Guest of Saling). I hope we can see A Mighty Wind soon.
