Happy birthday to D

eve_primeToday was D's 24th birthday, and he had a paid day off from work. He and S went to look at a studio apartment, which was very cute but unsuitable in several ways. (Here's the ad, though I expect it will disappear at some point.) The owners wanted a very high rent per square foot for a space that doesn't even include a refrigerator or stove, and the tenants also have to do yardwork. It would be much too small for the two of them to work from home, as they do now, and that's not even getting to the issue that it's many blocks from the bus line, so D would depend on S to drive him anywhere. It's good for them to see what's out there, though, and to think about what they want. We are still hoping that the apartments near us, where J lived 10-12 years ago, will have an opening that they can get - they've applied several times but not quickly enough.
Around 8 pm they came over for gifts and apple pie. The four of us sat outside together in J's yard and talked about rental housing and later about One Piece.
It was very cloudy today and even rained before I was up, although it was still warm. J thought it was gloomy and wondered if it was wildfire smoke. I found it energizing because it was a respite from daytime brightness, and I drove around and did a bunch of errands after making the apple pie. Historically, this is the least likely day of the year for rain in Eugene, but there it was. Also, inexplicably, grass pollen was happening again, which interfered with my sleep. Very strange! Anyway, other than that, I felt pretty good today, and J and D are rather better though still coughing a lot.
