D hadn't heard of him before today, but now he's reassured, because the internet tells him that Vance is widely reviled. I read his book soon after it came out, and I can certainly see why people in his community of origin might not be enthusiastic about him. I'm surprised Trump would choose him, considering the things he said about Trump back in 2016, but I guess his conversion was convincing?

It must have been. The more reviled he is, the better for Trump's base.

D thinks he is reviled _by_ Trump's base, but I think they have short memories and are easily herded in new directions...
